Teaching Hatha Yoga - Social Skills and Social Events

Wednesday, December 9, 2009

If you are teaching regular yoga sessions or planning, social skills are an absolute must. Running a yoga studio, teaching and doctrine, has many similarities with the function of a coordinator for social events or activities of a director.

More recently, this was the topic of discussion between a colleague and I, who said she was too busy to take a "social butterfly." She felt that teaching yoga classes is enough, and their students should apply to the gratefulExperience.

While I can appreciate their honest opinion, and I know she is a competent yoga teacher, there is an emptiness in her studio, of a social atmosphere. It has a reception, teachers and staff to fill the gaps in public relations in their studio.

When I had the idea, she felt it was unprofessional to make a studio or ashram in a social center. She said: "I really like yoga students who are completely committed to the practice and Ido not want a meeting place for fly-by-night introductions. "

But with the slowing down last summer and the "new economy", she called me to ask for a couple of ideas for social gatherings. We spoke for almost an hour, but I can bring you a summary of the ideas, the new students in the yoga studio.

In the fall we have our annual research Jew St Children's Hospital fundraiser. It is a combination of an open door, yoga marathon, and a fundraiser. What does St.Jew Children's Research Hospital do? St. Jew's is the second largest area of health care in the charity in the United States. Its mission is to cure cancer in children and also other research catastrophic diseases.

Now, you might say: "I would rather have a fund raiser for my own studio as a charity. My studio needs of students. How will this help me?" You're right - this will not help you, get new students in the short term. What they will do is to raise awareness of liftCommunity about what you do and what to put here.

You might get a few new yoga students about the long term, as a result of your charitable endeavors. Karma is such a strong law that can only good things come out of your selfless service, and parents should not suffer with the loss of a child.

If you have a grand opening, open day, partner yoga night, charity event, or a combination of these ideas to get some public exposure, consider it a win-win --Event. Your community, your favorite love and your studio all benefit from your efforts.
