The history of yoga is an interesting one indeed. It is not entirely clear in many ways, but much is also about the history of yoga.
It is believed that the word from the Sanskrit word yoga is derived Yog meaning union or yoke. This is presumably the ultimate goal of yoga, referring to a union. The Union is the union of body and spirit, reaching a state of higher mental being or spiritual awareness.
Yoga has beenoriginally a spiritual enterprise, developed for the improvement of the spiritual being. It is practiced much more frequently today for its relaxation and health, and because it is a pleasant pastime, but it was originally a spiritual quest.
It is not known, physical exercises, which also favor with increased flexibility. It can also make very useful for meditation. Yoga has been practiced for thousands of years.
Some yoga adherents claim,that yoga story begins with a carved a man sitting in finding the cross with outstretched arms, like on a seal, which is probably around 8000 years old legs.
And some see the beginnings of yoga in the ancient Hindu scriptures known as the Vedic Shastras are found. This would Yoga is estimated to 4000 years old.
Yoga as a discipline of that name in the Upanishads, which gave life to the Bhagavad Gita to be found. This is known as theOriginal writings on yoga and clearly lays the foundation for self-realization, yoga was the target. It contains also known as the 3 main branches of yoga as Karma, Jnana and Bhakti.
Today there are many streams of yoga. Most of them are related most closely associated with Hatha Yoga, which is younger than some other forms of thought back to about 700 years to go. It is clear that the history of yoga is not clear. That does not mean, though nothing about the fact that yoga is practiced mainly by Western supporters more, is a relaxing and enjoyable pastime that has significant health benefits. Whatever the history of yoga, it is now practiced by many people in our society and is constantly growing in popularity.
